Amateur and professional photographers and videographers have been reaping havoc all over the United States and there is no sign of this stopping. If these key influencers are making policies, they will not be forgiving of screw ups. These key influencers will want to make a decision based off of public perception. If the public does not view drones in a good light, which they do not to date, there will be more strict laws and more no drone zones—even if the UAV industry is able to provide hard evidence that drones are useful in information gathering. There have been some scholarly articles written about drone safety and their place in society. One of the best is by Wells C. Bennett, titled Civilian Drones, Privacy, and the Federal-State Balance. It discusses the hazards of drones and how the United States has used them in the past. It also touches on who should pass legislation on the use of UAV’s, the Federal Government or the State Government. It is that the situation could have been handled properly to where a gun would not have been fired at the drone. If the four men would have approached the man, before flying over his neighbor’s yard, they might not have had to take him to court over the situation. (Matyszczyk, 2015)
Now, lawmakers are looking into these types of situations when thinking about what legislation they should pass. Based strictly off of case law, this is the only recent case where shooting down a drone is legal.
