Drinking While Pregnant Research Paper

Pregnancy is a very important stage in life for both the pregnant woman and the child she is bearing. With such responsibility that she has by carrying a new life, there comes a lot of sacrifices that she has to do to protect the newborn from danger and illness. One of the most common sacrifices that a woman must make is to decide whether she wants to stop drinking while she is pregnant. Although the majority of women try to not drink while they are pregnant, there are some who do not see why drinking a couple of drinks would endanger their pregnancy. There has been much debate about whether drinking while pregnant effects the unborn child. But, in some studies, they found that drinking more than that does cause children to have a shorter attention span (McMillen). What is recommended is that pregnant women should limit their alcohol consumption while pregnant, or to not drink at all, as there is no scientific evidence that there will not be any risks drinking while pregnant. Many women do not know the level of drinking in which they could endanger their unborn child. The article titled, “ Concern over levels of drinking during pregnancy raise by studies,” by Sarah Boseley, also explains how even in studies, they cannot really find the level of drinking in which it could affect the pregnancy. Although they do recommend not drinking while pregnant, many in parts of Europe and New Zealand have been drinking a lot more alcohol during the first trimester of pregnancy than later during pregnancy ( Boseley).
