Dressing For Success Research Paper

In college, it has become increasingly common for students to be lackadaisical when dressing themselves for class in the morning. The obvious lack of effort when it comes to one’s attire can reveal how serious they view their education, along with the amount of respect a person holds for his or her professor. The vast majority of universities do not require students to follow any type of dress code, leaving students a free range of opportunities when choosing what type of clothing they decide to wear to class. With this freedom, comes a responsibility to dress appropriately for class. Deciphering what “Dressing for Success” indicates is often difficult due to the dissimilarity of people’s opinions. So how does one know what to deem appropriate when deciding how to dress when attending class? What types of clothing remains acceptable versus unacceptable? College is the point in a student’s life where academic expectations and goals are no longer forced upon them by strict education laws which children involuntarily abide by until they turn eighteen. A student’s appearance while attending class is one of the quickest ways to create an impact on the way classmates and professors choose to perceive them. If a student comes to class looking properly kept, and wearing clothes that exemplify their ambition for learning and success, a professor might view the students in a more serious manner. Furthermore, the students who decide to attend class looking as if they had just rolled out of bed and put shoes on risk the chance of not being taken seriously by their professors.
