“The Do-Over” is a comedy only released on netflix about a year ago starring Adam Sandler as “Max Kessler” and David Spade playing “Charlie McMillan”. This movie is mainly about two high school friends reconnecting at a high school reunion and making their lives much more interesting than it is at that point in time. Max plans to fake both of their deaths and start from scratch. A new life… Literally!…
LL Cool J LL Cool J can be imitated but cannot be duplicated. I want to know how he did achieve such a feat of reinventing himself from the 80’s B-boying and MCing into an actor and fashion icon when most of his peers from back in the day are still stuck on that same talent they discovered. LL Cool J which is the short for Ladies Love Cool James was born January 14, 1968 with the name James Todd Smith. He is an American hip hop recording artist and actor from Queens, New York. LL Cool J is also known as one of the forefathers of pop rap.…

"Wanted" is basically from a comic book that has limited series written by Mark Miller and J.G Jones, it is about an amoral protagonist (Wesley Gibson) who is discovered as the heir of super assassin. Russian director, Timur Bekmambetov, he is the cream of the crop, he turns this comic into a movie that make the viewers not sit still and make their adrenaline and cortisone levels spike with the actions. Bekmambetov used the similar style of shots and angles with his previous movie, Night watch. It's more to wide angle (long shot), so we can see the terrifying background like one of the scenes in the torture room, where Wes has been beaten up by the butcher. Not even that, there are many special effects that Bekmambetov applies in this movie, like slow-motion with sound effects that certainly provides that "ouch" reaction from audiences.…
Journal Entry The movie “A Time to Kill” is similar to the classic novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” as a white lawyer is defending an innocent African American man, but the predominantly white jury is the only obstacle that both men have of getting freedom and receiving true justice. The ending is where the two break apart as Carl Lee Hailey is pronounced innocent and gets to live, while Tom Tom Robinson ( still at court but believes that Atticus will fail) dies while trying to escape prison. Both the novel and film depicts how the justice system in the south is not fair as the jury cannot see beyond the skin colour of the accused. I believe that the actions that Carl Lee Hailey did was justified as the two rapists Billy Ray Cobb and Pete…
My favorite movie is Love and Basketball. The way Sanaa Lathan plays the part of Monica is like they were one in the same. Hearing the name of the movie may have you thinking it is about the love of the game of basketball, when I'm reality it's about the love two high school kids have for each other and the love they share for basketball. Their love for basketball and one another are connected In a way. When they're on good terms they both have good games, but when every thing is wrong it throws their game off.…
Many luxuries are granted to the citizens of the U.S. such as technology that helps us get through the day. These luxuries are not available to people in other countries and I believe that if I had to step into one of the four children in the movie On the Way to School I could handle living Carlos’s life. Carlos lives in Argentina and is 11 years old which is near my age, but that is the only thing we have slightly in common. We live completely different lives and Carlos does not have all the luxuries I have. Out of the all the other kids Carlos is the most modern of the four his clothes are similar to mine and he lives in a small house made up of bricks.…
The definition of a black film would seem to be an easy standard to mutually agree on. Films about the people and culture of the African diaspora would satisfy most definitions, but issues arrive when black people are poorly represented and stereotyped or when the definition excludes other cultures from discussing black culture when they could also give a fair and thoughtful representation in Black Cinema. Thomas Lott argues that it can be hard to identify what makes quality black films because there must be an analysis of the separate concepts blackness and cinema. In his article “ “A No-Theory Theory of Contemporary Black Cinema,” Lot provides a compelling reason why his no theory approach provides a satisfying and open-ended approach to defining Black Cinema. Lott references Thomas Cripps’ Black film as Genre, Cripps to discuss a proposed definition of Black films to be defined as movies produced, written, directed, performed by, and performed for black people.…
In 1989, Spike Lee released the film Do The Right Thing. At the time, this movie was a huge surprise to many audience members because it showed the true racial tensions and racial issues that were happening in the United States. One example of a racial incident that happened was at Howard Beach in 1986, where a group of black men were chased by a group of white men and in result a black man was killed by running across a highway and getting hit. This is one example of violence in the 80’s that Spike Lee touched on, although his movie was released over 25 years ago we still feel and see many of the same racial tensions today. All over the United States, racial issues are still present, some examples are: in the work environment, the education…
Biographies have existed for centuries, in which they describe the life and story of a person who once lived. Normally, these are written in the form of a book. However, in today’s time, many are interpreted into a different form of media, in which several films nowadays are those of a biopic, a biographical film. “Straight Outta Compton” is a biopic from 2015 that talks about the career of the hip-hop artists of NWA, Niggas with Attitude- Ice Cube, Easy-E, Dr. Dre, MC Ren, and DJ Yella. The release of the film “Straight Outta Compton” allowed many different depictions and interpretations to arise, focusing on its culture and music.…
Adolescence is a time of intense physical, cognitive, social and emotional development and growth. It is a time of testing family and societal boundaries in order to find one’s own identity and to better understand one’s self. The film Dazed and Confused is made up of a cast of teenage kids exploring the issues of friendships, juvenile delinquency and family dynamics. From the perspective of developmental psychology this film is full of examples of the way adolescents navigate the changes that occur within their relationships and lives during this period of development. The three developmental-psychological principles depicted in this film which are being analyzed in this paper are parent-adolescent conflict, peer groups and juvenile delinquency.…
The movie “Arranged” is a drama-induced film with a powerful message of integrity that religious women uphold. Arranged is a film that displays traditions that are very important in a religious household, such as marriage. Coming from two completely different traditions, Rochel, an orthodox Jew, and Nasira, a dominant Muslim, come to realize that their process for marriage is very similar. I chose to do this assignment rather than the bus ride because once I read what the movie was about, I began to be very interested in learning how the process of marriage works in other religions besides my own. I recently got engaged so I was looking forward to comparing the processes from the two women in the story with my own experiences since I am looking…
INTRODUCTION The act of crime is brought about by breaking the law enforced by the government thus, there is violation of rights entitled to individuals and disruptions of well-being (Brown et al. 2013: 20). The duty of a law enforcement officer is to eradicate crime in a society, it’s to promote peace and ensure safety within a society. Additionally, law enforcement officers are normally seen as law abiding citizens who are tasked with implementing the laws at all jurisdictional levels (Otu 2006: 18). At the same time, some law enforcement officers see themselves as crime fighters, while others consider themselves helpers of those who cannot help themselves.…
MOVIE BACKGROUND: The Kendrick Brothers are at it again with their latest installment into the Christian movie scene, War Room, which is a lovable and heartwarming film focused on prayer and trusting in God. The story starts off with Tony (T.C. Stallings) and Elizabeth Jordan (Priscilla C. Shirer), a seemingly “have it all” couple with their beautiful daughter Danielle (Alena Pitts), a big house and a white picket fence kind of life style. However, things are not always as they seem.…
The Unforeseen Journey of a Karate Master Joseph Campbell, an american mythologist, discovered the many common patterns that ran through the hero’s myths and stories around the world. The many years that Joseph Campbell had researched this topic, he noticed that most and almost every hero's story contained a common pattern , even in diverse cultures. A story that showed this pattern was the movie The Karate Kid. The movie The Karate Kid cataloged the journey of Shao Dre who is learning the basics of karate as well as gaining the dignity that karate embraces. Dre picks up this through the training of his instructor, Mr Han, who taught him the exceptional uses of karate as well as the damages it result in.…
