1. Listen to the I Have a Dream speech and identify where in the speech is the emotional appeal that captures your attention and makes you want to join him.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. makes an allusion to Abraham Lincoln at the beginning of his speech when he says “five score years ago”. This quote alone would speak to people. It tells people to look back to the time of Abe Lincoln and what he accomplished for African American people. It inspires people to think that they are making history again.
Throughout the speech Dr. King uses words that would hold attention, such as shackles, bad check, bankrupt, bitterness, hatred, faith, suffering, veterans, and freedom. All these words hold emotions and connotation. King knows this and intentionally incorporates these

When will we show them compassion instead of stereotyping their lives so that we may feel better for leaving them in their state of need? When will we defend the vulnerable that so are left behind?
I have a dream where people can go to the doctor without considering the cost. I have a dream that we may go the pharmacy and not use cash or card. I have a dream no one is drowning in medical bills. I have dream that America can compete with other industrial countries health care, instead of holding on to the past. I have a dream the inequality does not have a place in health care, no matter how much money you have in your pockets.
There is no place in the United States for an institution that discriminates on a daily basis. There is no place for people to endure pain because they cannot afford to seek relief. There is no place for an industry that put a price on living a full life.
I know that Dr. King would see the injustice of our current system. If he were still with us today I think he too would want to make a change. I think he would take a similar stand and fight for those who voices would otherwise remain silent.
