Personal Statement

‘Be human.’ That is the words of my mentor said to me at my first class of Drama in Education. Being a teacher has always been my dream since childhood. In my opinion, teacher is one of the greatest career in the world because it helps people to be a better person. Hence, three years ago, I applied for the major of Drama in Education of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, where I started my journey of being a qualified teacher.

Studying Drama in Education in the Shanghai Theatre Academy is a quite different experience than traditional educational major. In the first year, we studied the foundation courses like Script Writing, Performance, Literature, Art Appreciation and the Drama History, etc. During the second year, I started

During the past three years, I have read many books about psychology and pedagogy, like The Interpretation of Dreams of Freud and the Émile of Rousseau. The Playback Theatre, Process Theatre, Forward Theatre and the Improvisation were also a part my book list. But practice is the sole criterion for testing truth. To grasp a better understanding and polish my teaching skills, a large proportion of my vacation was spent on teaching practice. In the past three years, I have transformed myself from a fresh teacher of performance into a qualified drama teacher of primary and junior high school students. It was during these practices that I discovered the meaning of my existence: I could felt my students’ progress from their shining eyes. But the Drama in Education is an emerging industry in China, which means it has a large space for improvement. I am longing for continue my study in the United Kingdom where enjoys the most progressive Drama in Education industry. I hope I could learn the cutting-edged theories, the development history and the advanced educational practice of the Drama in Education in the United Kingdom. The graduate program MA Drama and Theatre Education at University of Warwick blends high quality course work, reasonable curriculum design and the world-class faculty. My favorite teacher, Chris cooper, was graduated from your esteemed university. After graduating from your master program, I will come back to China and devote myself into the development of Chinese Drama in Education industry.
