In truth, this drake equation might seem like it gives us reasonable calculations of the civilization out the in the universe but this is a very flawed equation. In one way that this equation is flawed is that there is not an exact definition as to what constitutes as “intelligent”, such as that there are many forms of intelligence and we as humans might just not be aware of those kinds of intelligences out there in the universe. Also, this equation is flawed in such that we compare everything based on earth, therefore this equation would be considered biased. Hothem said in his lecture that “we know more of what we don’t know than what we know” which is a confusing saying but it makes sense because in our culture we praise those that know more than the average do, …show more content…
In the Drake Equation, there are some mathematical miscalculations with using the drake equation based on the earth if the earth is so miniscule compared to the whole universe we live in. When we calculate the drake equation and we find several civilizations that might be out there in the universe that answer only tells us that there’s more to find out and it gives us a number for our unknowns. I think that the drake equation should include a variable such as time because we know that the fastest speed is the speed of light and we should account for the time that perhaps an extraterrestrial life signal might reach us then we might not even be here because we know that there’s 5 billion years left approximately left of the sun to live and by that time we might not be in earth. We know that these numbers based on this equation are estimates so if we can’t thoroughly explore our neighboring plants it is safe to say that any estimates about the rest of the planet are

The definition of intelligence is the ability to gain and use knowledge and skills. Most of this prior knowledge is recorded. Books hold tons of knowledge but some of them take years to better understand and grasp the concept of the lesson in the book. In Fahrenheit 451(written by Ray Bradbury), Captain Beatty is intelligent because he reads books, quotes them, and better understands the history of the world than anyone else in the community.…

(C)There are many examples of statistics and facts to prove the logic of his idea through out the speech for those naysayers. (S) McCullough uses the planets population to further dive into his theory when he reports, “So think about this: even if you’re one in a million, on a planet of 6.8 billion that means there are nearly 7,000 people just like you.” (A)The use of everyone in the world perhaps makes it easier to the big picture that McCullough is trying to get through the audience’s head. We, the students of Professor Bart Goddard’s Differential Equations class (M 427J), are writing to you about a recent incident for which he is at risk of losing his position in the university. During the 12:00 PM class on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, Professor Goddard told a cautionary tale about how, in the Holocaust, Nazi engineers used lime to prevent blood from ruining the train tracks of the trains carrying the Jews to the camps, calling on the engineering students in the audience to understand the implications of their work and to avoid evildoing. As a result, he was relieved of his teaching duties on Friday morning, for two class sessions and is currently in a state of limbo pending the decision of the dean for his case. However, we believe that the professor in no way attacked, demeaned, or otherwise discredited a student, race or religious affiliation (nor intended to do so) with his story. Furthermore, the story he told does not reflect his ability to effectively teach the course at all, and it is not representative of his highly positive relationship with his classes as a whole.…

“Classical music isn 't so far apart from pop music”. From last class we made a comparison that Jay-z between Haydn and who I believe that is similar to Franz Joseph Haydn is Drake. Drake comes from a musical family, but Drake grew up with music in his blood. For example His father, Dennis Graham was a drummer for legendary rock star Jerry Lee Lewis. One thing that they both don’t have in common is that Drake before he was a rapper, came to fame by playing wheelchair-bound Jimmy Brooks in seven seasons of the popular teen show name “Degrassi: The Next Generation ”.The…

The Petrarchan sonnet “Hap,” by Thomas Hardy, is an exploration of how life is controlled and can be explained. In the poem’s octave, the speaker envisions a life under the power of a vengeful god who……, but concludes in the sestet that in reality, life is not controlled by higher powers, malicious or not. The speaker searches for an explanation that would give purpose to his pain, but failing to find one, laments the reality of his situation, where suffering can only be explained by chance. In the first quatrain, the speaker imagines life controlled by a “vengeful god” (1) and emphasizes the god’s malicious delight in others’ suffering.…
