Dr. Henson than went on to depict a diagram similar to the one mentioned in class about the scopes that math, science and religion have. The next series of questions that we asked was targeted specifically to her field of research which is seabird ecology. One of the questions was if she had come across anything in her research that had seemed a to be a contradiction to her faith. Dr. Henson responded that her research was primarily focused on recording the amount of cannibalism that was observed in seabirds as a result of climate change. She mentioned that she admired the fact that God had created seabirds with the ability to adapt to stressful conditions, however, it was at times hard to reconcile cannibalism in seabirds to her belief in God’s kind and loving nature.
Reflection:
I really found Dr. Henson’s concept of apparent paradoxes very refreshing. My personal exposure to science has brought me in contact with a lot of information that may appear to contradict what the bible says. Thus, Dr. Henson’s description of apparent paradoxes served as a reinforcing element to my belief in certain things that may
