Throughout the world, there are several influential figures that have done good in the fields that they are in. Whether it be doctors discovering cures for new diseases, leaders of different nations striving to better their people, or even as small as a teacher or professor of a school or college making an impact in the lives of their students. In deciding who should have a monument of them added to the national mall, I took the approach and found someone in the field that I am a part of who has greatly influenced my life as well as the others in my profession. Misty Copeland, principal dancer for American Ballet Theatre, is one of the largest role models in the ballet community, not just because of where she is professionally, but more importantly how she rose from her hardships in life to the light of …show more content…
She somehow managed to stay true to who she was, even at such a young age and become a sort of role model to her younger siblings. At the start of her teenage years, she took part in activities at her Boys and Girls Club, and soon unknowingly discovered her talent in choreography. She took this interest and decided to be a part of her school’s drill team. While at the Boys and Girls Club, it was brought to her attention that ballet classes were taking place, and her drill team coach advised her to take them because of her talent. She refused, and sat on the sidelines of the gym for a whole week before being convinced to partake in the class. She hated it. She was bound and determined that her first class there would be her last. But, the teacher of the class saw great potential in her, and had her study at her personal studio under a scholarship, and at age 13, was looked at as a prodigy due to how fast she was learning and improving at the school.
