The survey that I chose to complete was called Attitudes and Perceptions (University of Sunderland, United Kingdom). Without getting into in-depth detail the survey predominantly encompassed perceptions with breast feeding, social behavior and gender equality. Initially I was asked to give my view point on short stories and how disgusted I felt with the situation that was presented after reading them. All of the short stories involved varying degrees of unfairness or intended crimes. The second section showed pictures of individuals doing daily activities including playing guitars, sitting at a desk and breastfeeding children. My view point with regards to my level of perceived social normality was questioned and evaluated with my feelings of what individuals were doing in these photos. The reason I chose to feature these specific applications deal directly with perception and social normality. Dr. Allport focused his whole career examining social issues and prejudices. By understanding various personalities, a researcher can sway and understand the information narrowing specific data requested. What we do and who we are have great influence on how we view the world and what we consider to be normal activates or viewpoints on various circumstances. The portion that dealt with breastfeeding in public is still controversial to this day. Many feel that this is just natural and a fact of life, others feel that such activates is archaic and is not necessary with modern technology with such items as breast pumps and such. I feel these issues revolve more around personal opinion more-so than social normality. Dr. Allports “Functional definitions became developmental theory all by itself” (Boeree, 2006). Similar to Dr. Freud , Dr. Allports stages were similar, but was not considered as stage theory. His structure derived individuals adaptive and stylistic behavior.
