For most Americans, High school was a special experience. Whether you were a nerd, goth, joke, skater, or something else entirety, never will it be replicated again. High school is usually where you gain long term friends, find yourself as a person, and learn complex concepts to ready yourself for college. It is also a place of great sociological occurrences and proves to be eye opening. Some films do a great job of telling a story using what happens in High schools.…

Charles Emile-August Carolus-Duran’s piece titled Portrait of an Artist in her Studio represents the action of a women painting. This piece was made in the late 19th century (c. 1880) and was considered one of Carolus-Duran’s great society portraits. The piece’s present location is the La Salle University Art Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and its original location was *****. This portrait is oil on canvas, and the “quick, loose brushwork” technique can be accredited to masters such as Diego Velasquez and Edouard Manet (placard.) Just as the painting suggests, the painting’s subject is an artist, many say Carolus-Duran’s wife or mistress, in her studio.…

In 2009, a show that would change the teenage tv show genre aired its pilot. Glee the first of its genre and the first of many other shows to come. In this essay, my three examples of disability in popular culture will be Becky from the show Glee, JJ from the show Speechless, and Forest Gump from the movie Forest Gump. My first example is Becky. In the show, Becky seems to be well liked from her peers. She is also puts on this tough front and is very sassy but also has feelings and gets upset like everyone else. Her peers around her are very careful not to hurt her feelings and sometimes treats her like a child.…

In this assignment I will discuss conflict theory and functionalism using the movie Mean Girls. Karl Marx states that class conflict is the struggle between capitalist and workers, and Mean Girls gives an example of that struggle. The way society is structured, the higher class has all the power and the lower class is continually taken advantage of. Even in high school there is hierarchy and I will discuss the effects of the lower class students and the culture shock of change, the desire to rise to the elite bourgeoisie class and the functionalist perspective.…

Around a decade ago mentally ill characters on soap operas were portrayed completely different to the way they are portrayed today. They were portrayed on TV as mad, bad and dangerous to know. Recently, soap operas and dramas, including Coronation Street and EastEnders, regularly win plaudits for their sympathetic depictions of people with conditions such as bipolar disorder and depression (Goodchild, 2015). According to Goodchild (2015) the research and findings from the Glasgow Media Group indicate that mental health storylines on soap operas is having a positive impact on the public by encouraging them to discuss taboo issues openly or even seek medical help. Anti-stigma campaign Time to Change confirms that producers are moving away from…
1. The movie Mean Girls has its own unique high school culture and within that culture there are many social communities. People tend to divide into their own groups with others who share similar ideas and values and this was also true in my high school, but my high school differed by being more open and accepting different groups similar to the ending of the movie. Also, social communities also have their own rules for example the plastics wear pink on Wednesdays and this stays the same to this day. People are guided by rules to fit in whether its what they wear, do, say, or act.…
I choose the early child hood field to better myself as a teacher and to get a better understanding of how a child’s mind work. Growing up I always wanted to became a teacher and open up my own daycare center. One of my career goals is to make sure my center is built and able to meet the needs of all children. This includes children who suffer with a disability or disorder. There is not many centers who have the resources or staff willing to help a child who suffer with developmental issues.…
