Dorothy Day is not a nut because she had the ability to change her life around. Growing up as a young child Dorothy said her siblings didn’t search for God but took him from granted. I can see how others would think Dorothy was a nut. Everything she did with her life was outside the norms of society at the time. In a relationship with a child involved usually it’s the males that pull away. Dorothy found God and converted to Christianity despite her old views causing her relationship with Forster to end. What woman would willingly choose to become a single mom? She decided to take on all the responsibilities of being a single parent and still care for others. More often than not Dorothy spent little time caring for Tamar, her daughter, and more so looking out for the homeless.
