In November of 2016, Donald J. Trump was elected president of the United States. A part of Trump’s platform is a hard stance on foreign policy, indicative in his speech on August 15th of 2016, before election; Trump spoke to his supporters about his attitude towards terrorism and the site Politico provided a transcript. Campaigning against Clinton and a staunch opponent of Obama’s administration, Trump believes “the rise of ISIS is the direct result of policy decisions made by President Obama and Secretary Clinton” (politico). Ideally, he would have liked to control the oil to prevent the rise of ISIS, through seizing their funding and keeping U.S. forces on ground to protect the oil (politico). The rhetoric behind Trump’s plan emphasizes the diction “Radical Islamic Terrorism” and he ostracizes Obama for releasing the $150 billion back to Iran. Allies are essential to his plan and Trump wants to work with Israel, “King Abdullah of Jordan, President Sisi of Egypt, and all others who recognize this ideology of death that must be extinguished” (politico). In fact, he references the Cold War and the ideological tests enforced, and wants to reenact those tests to fight against Radical Islam. Through the State Department and Department of Homeland Security, Trump wants to identity regions where new screening techniques need to be discovered and, until then, stop all visa processing and suspend immigration from those places. He wants to work with the Muslim Community to establish a Commission on Radical Islam that benefit law enforcement in eradicating this issue.
