Marine Dolphin Research Paper

Dolphins are one of the most interesting animals in the marine life. From the way they communicate with each other, to their friendly way around other animals or humans, these animals are pretty well known in the marine world. The name dolphin comes from the Greek word delphis which means “fish with a womb”. Dolphins belong to the taxonomic category “Odontoceti” which also means “toothed whale”. Dolphins match these characteristics of an “Odontoceti”, such as, they have teeth and a single blowhole. They use echolocation to identify objects surrounding them, they have an asymmetrical skull or also known as plagiocephaly. According to the dictionary, it means, “a deformity of the skull in which one side is more developed in the front, and the other side is more developed in the rear.” …show more content…
However, the most common and well-known dolphin is the Bottlenose Dolphin or Tursiops as their scientific name. These types of dolphin got their name from their short and stubby beak. They have large bodies, up to 10 feet to 14 feet long with dark grey as their skin color. With lighter shades of grey on their flanks, and have either white or pink as their belly. They have a sleek and streamline body, making it easy for them to move through waters. They are usually found in large sea aquariums or amusement parks for their friendly looking faces and their friendliness towards people and other animals. With their mouth curved upwards and their tricks, they became the best-known dolphin worldwide. They are intelligent and playful and are also easily trained to do simple tricks, making it the best zoo
