Doe Noises Off Play Summary

Frederick falls backstage and is injured. The audience does not know what happened, but the audience hears his scream. Tim takes on the role of Philip. However, Frederick eventually comes back on stage as his character. When Frederick comes back on stage as Philip, Frederick picks up from his scene as if Tim never played the part of Philip. Frederick does not know what scene the other actors are performing, so he keeps coming in at the wrong time and repeating the same line. I have to say the repeated line in an anxious tone, so the audience knows Philip is worried about the consequences that may occur. Although, Frederick’s timing was very bad. It was important for me to be on time and expressive when I was playing the role of Philip. Comic timing is very hard for actors because every movement has to be perfect. Otherwise, the play seems unrehearsed so the audience loses interest. There are many examples on why precision in time is important for actors. Bartels 2 stage at all the inappropriate times. He interrupts conversations between Roger and Vicki, and he obviously sees them. However, the mistakes cause the play to be funny because Act One shows the audience how the play is supposed to be performed. It is important for me to remember when I should come on stage as Philip. It is also important for me to make eye contact with Roger and Vicki to emphasize the uncomfortable situation Philip created by entering at the wrong time. Lastly, Philip says, “sorry” every time he mistakenly enters. I have to remember to put a lot of expression in one word to convey how Philip actually does feel bad and embarrassed for coming in at the incorrect
