Do Women Get Paid Too Much Pay

Pay and Women’s Soccer: The Huge Difference Did you know that the US women’s soccer team has won four Olympic Gold medals and three World Cup championships in this decade and are consistently being paid less than the men, who have never won any major title? The fact is when it comes to soccer is that the US women national team are much better than their male counterparts and are still made to feel that they are less superior. How would you feel if you were the best at something at the highest level and were not paid according to your work ethic and talent? Not only do women statistically get paid much less than men, but they are also mothers and caretakers while working and doing jobs professionally. FIFA justifies their decision by saying “women receive a higher base salary-around $72,000 annually” (White 2). There are other justifications for opposition to this side that says “Top athletes play for club and country. Club refers to their regular jobs, for teams in Major League Soccer, the English Premier League or the other leagues around the world. The most talented also play for country, their national team. Most earnings come from club salaries, with national teams paying less money, for fewer games” (Conerly 1). This statement says that because the game of women’s soccer isn’t in the mainstream media and really isn’t televised than it shouldn’t have to be paid what it didn’t earn. This argument is completely grasping at straws because not only is the every single Woman’s National Team game televised, but there is a massive fan base for women’s soccer and so many men, women, and children look up to those women, to want to be them one
