Recently I had a student approach me and tell me that his parents are getting a divorce. The student walked away from the group he was in to come tell me this information. In prac 1 I had this same situation with a student and didn't know what to do or say. Through that prac 1 I was able to talk with my field advisor about what I could do to be better prepared to handle tough situations like this. When this current student approached me I was able to handle the situation a lot more calmly and feel more confident on what to do. I realized that all the student wanted was someone to listen to them. I told the student how sorry I was and that I am always here to talk to him. I also explained that it is okay to be sad or upset because it is okay

This week’s readings were pretty difficult for me. I continue to carry guilt for not being able to be the mom I wanted to be for my children after my divorce and the many years following hat I had to work full time. I grieve the loss of those years with my children but more than that, I grieve my lack of presence. The stress of being a single mom with undiagnosed anxiety and depression reduced my ability to handle normal childhood energy and development. I became an incredibly fearful and strict parent.…
