The Division of Gravity is a film about the progression of a failed relationship and explains how you must learn to let get as told by the main unnamed woman narrating the beginning of the film. The relationship seems to be very healthy at the opening of the film the male protagonist is an emerging photographer as the two of them move in together. As his career progresses, their relationship begins to turn and the couple continuously fights until there is nothing left of their relationship to salvage and the female protagonist decides it is better if she leaves. A graphic match cut is when the next shot is graphically similar to the first meaning the staging, colors, movement or composition is very similar to the first shot. This is used in the film in many shots to show the differences between the couple in a relationship and when they are no longer together and example of this would be the couple setting up their new apartment together with him putting her picture above the mantel, to the next scene being the male protagonist taking her picture off the wall and crying. The edit is seamless and the scenes directly transition to one another with no break. These two shots being edited together in succession allow us to see into the male protagonist's emotional state both within, and what we can assume is, after the break up because he is packing up their home. The scene is relatively the same with his clothing color of gray staying consistent and scenery in the apartment being set up the exact same way; as well as the man's positioning facing the mantle with the picture about it being the same. The only thing different is that the woman is missing and his emotional state seems to be broken as he was smiling and laughing in the previous shot he is now crying and leaning on the wall for
