Scranton is a city that houses approximately 78,000 people, with 20% of the population under the age of 18, and 17% over the age of 65 (U.S. Census). According to the U.S Census Bureau, in 2010, 84% of the total Scranton population was White. However, in past 5 years, Scranton has welcomed a great number of people of different race and ethnicity. Since 2010, 1,200 Bhutanese, 400 Turks along with people of other ethnic groups have been infusing the city with great a diversity. Currently, total of 36 different languages are being spoken in the Scranton School District (Scranton Journal). In terms of healthcare, between, 2010-2014, 12% of the population under the age of 65 had a disability and 15% of the population was uninsured (U.S. Census). With the increasing diversity healthcare administrators face a huge problem due to language barrier as about 15% of the Scranton population do not speak English as their first language (GeisingerCHNA). Both Moses Taylor and Regional hospital are owned by Commonwealth health, a largest network of hospitals in Northeastern Pennsylvania. They provide over 35 different services such as gynecology, pathology, pediatrics, geriatric, psychiatry etc. According to Medicare hospital compare, GCMC and Regional hospital have been rated with two stars and Moses Taylor has been given one star. Although, Moses Taylor and Regional hospitals provide great services, I will be focusing on GCMC as it is the biggest hospital of the community providing over 45 various services with the capacity of 294 beds.
