Respect and tolerance are in American air everywhere: people are smiling on the streets, they are ready to help you, even they haven’t ever met you before. There is no discrimination here and I am amazed by that. Every personality can be himself / herself and does not have to conform to other people in fear that someone may harm him / her. Each nation and each country has its traditions, national clothes, and cuisine. Here in the U.S., millions of people having different roots and nationalities are creating one big and bright culture of America where everything is mixed. As a great example, I have relationships of my host-sister. Her best friend is from Syria and she is Muslim, but it didn’t stop their friendship, they share cultures with each other, communicate and, of course, develop their personalities. For me, America is a rainbow, in which thousands of colors are joined together and brings joy to others. Many people may disagree with me and say that the USA does not display culture, but I have found that it does in such little time in this country. People in the U.S. are all equal and respectful of one another. These are necessary attributes other countries should learn from them. This is a place where more than 25 various cultures (Native Americans, Italians, Mexican, etc.) can live in the world, be different, and have a new history despite all the hardships in the past. In my motherland Ukraine, the issues of tolerance and discrimination are sharp and my dream is to change it. I live in the city, which is called “the capital of students.” Students from all over the world come to the city. What I see is that people do not take other cultures: they do not understand people talking different languages, they judge their cuisine, because it tastes completely different and bully people, because of color of their skin; which leads to disrespectful fights, scandals, and arguments. Is this kind of disrespectful behavior normal? Of course, not! My dream is to change the attitude of people. With the time I’ll spend here and the experiences I’ll get from American citizens, I will believe be able to solve this problem.
