Diversity: A Personal Experience At The University

Improved Essays
Learning from and sharing with a diverse group of people is greater than that which is learned from like-minded individuals. To bring not only my own experiences but those outside of my community and share with other students is an exciting contribution I want to be a part of. It also means that I can continue to gain from various other cultures, interests, and perspectives that I have yet to be exposed to. I see myself at NCSU, not only expanding my knowledge by embracing new experiences offered by the diversity seen on campus, but also sharing my personal experiences from the diversity I have already encountered.

As a member of the Spanish Honor Society and my high school’s Spanish Club, I have a passion for immersing myself into other cultures. With our country constantly evolving, I enjoy having the knowledge to keep up with the growing population. I am fortunate to live in a multicultural neighborhood and enjoy the opportunities to encounter food, music, and celebrations from a variety of cultures. For example, my neighbors celebrate Cinco de Mayo to commemorate the victory at the Battle of Puebla with foods such as tacos, enchiladas, guacamole, and churros. It is wonderful to be a part of this holiday were I meet and talk with friends and learn more about their traditions, just as I would on the campus of NCSU.

Different viewpoints, languages, ethnic groups, and nationalities are just a few of the things I hope to experience at NC State. I find it important to create acquaintances from various backgrounds in order to unite ourselves as fellow humans, regardless of where we were born or what language we speak.…

Centro Latino, which is located on the second floor of the Dobbs University Center, West Wing, was festively decorated with flags of the countries that encompass the Latino community. The event’s program was led by a college senior, Bryan Natividad.…

I am so excited for the opportunity to share in this most diverse campus at NC State! Being a student at NC State, I would both benefit from and contribute to campus diversity. It would enable me to learn about different cultures and inevitably make me a more sensitive person and more tolerant of other peoples views and religious beliefs. Also, being a student at such a diverse campus would prepare me for the work force where I'll encounter people from all walks of life who's views might be different from my own. What I would like to contribute to NC State's diversity are my own set of views and perspectives.…

The Houston runway was quickly disappearing beneath me, the plane ascending, leaving my stomach dismantled on the tarmac. I couldn’t believe what was happening. I was truly on a plane, by myself, headed to Buenos Aires, Argentina. My mother laughed at the thought of me living abroad; consistently making it known my ideas were childish, financially unstable and unattainable. With a slight grin pulling at my lips, I close my eyes and begin to wonder what the world will look like on the other side of that airplane door.…
