Today I learned many new facts and statistics that I never knew before. The overwhelming amount of fatalities and injuries that are the result of distracted teen driving make me realize how important it is for myself and others to learn and understand how dangerous the world we are going to be driving in really is. I never realized how many lives are ended because of someone speeding on Utah highways. It is a terrible truth that 40% of all Utah highway deaths are a result of drivers speeding. I cannot imagine how horrible you would feel if you killed a person simply because you wanted to get to your destination faster.

Another main reason for teenage deaths on Utah highways is because the teenage driver was following the car ahead too closely.

Everyone already knows that distracted driving is very risky, but Virginia Tech proved just how risky it can be. They used radars, sensors, and cameras to collect data from 3,500 drivers over a three-year period and documented 1,600 crashes and 905 severe crashes. Upon further examination, it was discovered that 68% of the severe crashes involved some type of observable distraction. Strangely, things that used to be significant in causing crashes, like putting…
