There’s much you can learn through reading about different psychological disorders and concepts. The book “First Person Plural: My Life as a Multiple” by Cameron West specifically explains the life of Cameron West living with Dissociative Identity Disorder. I chose this book because of my uncertainty and intrigue about DID and the everyday struggles of multiples. Because this book is based on the actual accounts of Cameron West, I felt I got a better understanding of DID and could really get a feel for the thoughts and feelings of this man through his journey of dealing and coming to terms with his disorder. At the end of the book, I had gone through a whirlwind of emotions from sadness because of Cams past to have developed DID to utter joy that he learned how to accept it and lived a happier life.…
What did you like about this script? I really like the concept of this script and the manner in which the writer unfolds the story. I also liked that the writer chose to leave minor clues in the character reaction when Ikesha, Shan, and Kay were around each other.…

Twenty-four-year-old, Susannah Cahalan, experienced identity loss during her month of madness and her time of recovery where she lost her personality and her memory of her illusional era. She was diagnosed with Anti-NMDA-receptor Autoimmune encephalitis which is when your body immune system attacks your brain. It all started with bedbug illusions, tiredness, identity loss, and numbness on her left leg and foot. She went to see a neurologist who diagnosed her with mononucleosis also known as the kissing disease, she became paranoid seeing hallucinations, and she had her first seizure of many to come. Later she became catatonic, where she stared into space, and with the help of her doctors, especially Dr. Najjar and Dr. Dalmau, she was able…

We will start with a description of the disorder from a diagnostic standpoint. Following from this, a psychological explanation will be provided as well as a biological description of what may be potential factors in causing dissociative identity disorder. With this basis explained, a review of relevant philosophical theories can be provided for understanding the traditional concept of personal identity and how it may be applied to explain multiple selves contained in one individual. Included in this will be a discussion on free will and theories on the fictive…
After so many sessions, the therapy cannot really be proclaimed as a successful treatment because the treatment was not finished due to the fact that the family and the therapist discovered that the father also has a DID and the family and the therapist were having a hard time with the father’s behavior as a result that the therapy has been stopped. Although the therapist had lost contact with the family, the therapist was able to present at least four identities in the course of the therapy which resulted that the case of Leigh was labeled as a Dissociative Identity Disorder and it was a great example of Kluft’s Etiological factor of biological capacity dissociate and it may also be learned response to…
Initially, I thought the topic was strange, and did not really see the value in learning about the basis of identity. However, I learned that identity is sculpted throughout a lifetime. Also, although certain parts of a person are decided at birth, I know from personal experience that many values are acquired through experience, as well as the constant adaptation of interests. The reason why I believe there is a connection between mental illness and identity, is because a person that is constantly feeling rejected, or discriminated due to their mental health, will most likely begin to shape an identity that consists of inferiority, and confusion.…
I agree that it’s impossible that someone can forget their past and continue function normally in society; The Dissociative Amnesia can be used by an individual as an escape from an unpleasant reality, such a family issues, drugs abuse, domestic violence etc. Unless the loss of memory is related to an accident or illness I have my doubt about those cases where the person loss the memory of their present. In my opinion Dissociative Disorder is a maladaptive response to a trauma because until the person faced their reality they wouldn’t be able to make a decision and seek for help, for example some people stays in abusive relationship because the just don’t wanted to deal with other issues that may arise, however, that’s a mechanism of defense…

The main thing to draw from Aaron Stampler in the movie Primal Fear is that dissociative identity disorder is something that is in our society, but it can be faked to get around various failures or wrong doings in life. The symptoms of the disorder vary greatly from case to case as do the causes of the disorder, and the treatments for it are long and require the patient to put forth a lot more effort and commitment…
