The highest contributor to early mortality and disease in Bulgaria is cardiovascular disease. There are several social factors that make cardiovascular disease prevalent in the country. In the broad-spectrum of the disease, the spread of poor cardiovascular health is due to the living standards and lifestyles of Bulgarians. A typical nutrition pattern for a Bulgarian has a direct correlation with their long term health. The foods that are associated with their nutrition are foods such high quantity of salty foods and foods that are full of fat. One barrier that is common for preventing treatment is Bulgaria 's healthcare. Bulgaria provides about half of their health care funding, and the other half is from private vectors. This system is a barrier because people who cannot afford the unofficial cash payments of the private vectors cannot afford to go at all (Boslaugh,2013). For instance, people with cardiovascular health concerns may not be able to afford proper care or checkups from the doctor because they cannot afford to do so. The Bulgarian health care system has inflexibilities because it lacks the ability to respond to citizens’ worsening health statuses and it contains only a few motivations for providing quality and efficient health care to their people (Highlights on Health in Bulgaria,2001). Another health issue in Bulgaria is vaccinating children, especially in Roma, Bulgaria. Luckily, vaccinations are free to children but, unfortunately, poverty plays a significant role in vaccinations. Although free, even the cost of transportation to go receive vaccinations can be too much for families (WHO,2013). Another barrier is that investment in health in Bulgaria remains below average in all of Europe. Simply if there is not enough funding there will not be proper or quality health services granted to the people (WHO, 2013). Bulgaria’s health system is a huge barrier to prevention.
