Electric vehicles is no longer a fantasy ideal, since it have hit the road for this few recent years. In fact, there is a rise in electric cars market recently. EVs can solve the many problems that cars with combustion engine have caused. Electric cars are considered to be fuel efficient and friendly to the environment. Not only are they zero emission, EVs also have overall better performance. Electric cars reduce the oil consumption and reach out for other sources of renewable energy. Diane Tuchetta lists four different types of electric vehicles and give simple and comprehensive explanation about them. Because of the simple design, the electric cars’ operation is easy to explain. While Seth Lietman and Bob Brant only give a general overview of the system, Marshall Brian gives a more in-depth explanation. In generally, the electric vehicle is made of a battery as a power source, a motor that runs the wheels and the controller that adjusts the speed of the car. Seth Leitman and Bob Brant talk about the benefits a person could have when owning an electric car such as high power efficiency, environmental friendly, low fuel cost and very little maintenance need. Due to the simple arrangement, there are not much energy loss during operation. Ray Rasmussen also agrees with them about so many good things that EVs offer. On the other, there are many challenges need to overcome in order for electric cars to be adopted by everybody. David Levison is another person who mentions about the issue of driving range and the battery capacity. Allan Roger updates some latest technology that are introduced and applied. These technology open up a promising future for electric vehicles. It is interesting how Dian Turchetta bring up the life-cycle and the fuel taxing issue, since not many people would associate those problems with electric cars. All of those problems exists partly due to the early stage of development. The challenges with electric cars can be solve because technology has improve and develop so quickly today.
