Although both America and Pakistan have a Democratic Republic, both interpret the government differently. Pakistan has a Parliamentary Democratic Republic, also constitutionally referred to as Islamic Republic of Pakistan (www.pakistan.gov). This means that Pakistan functions in accordance with islam, the mainstream religion in the country. The sharia law that surrounds the government are very restricted to the freedom of speech towards Islam in a negative manner. Thus, blasphemy, the speaking against god, can be punishable by death. Contrastingly, America has a different perception of Democratic Republic. The United States bases the laws that are implemented corresponding to the constitution. Instead of a religion stemmed rule of law, the United States derives its ideas from famous enlightenment thinkers, such as John Locke.
