Both Rome and the United States have a legislative branch made up of two bodies. In both cases there is a more powerful legislative branch and a less powerful branch. In both ancient Rome and the United States the senate is the most powerful legislative branch. In both cases the senate is made up of citizens elected by the people for the purpose of making laws and managing spending. In ancient Rome there were 300 senators that held their position for life. In the United Sates senate there is 100 senators that serve a six year term. The US senate also works directly with the less powerful legislative branch called the House of Representatives. In the United States it’s the House of Representative. Members of both the Tribunes and the House of Representatives are citizens elected by the people. There were ten Tribunes in ancient Rome although it varies. There are currently 435 congressmen in the House of Representatives. The House of Representatives works directly with the Senate to pass laws for all citizens. The tribunes were not Senators but spoke for the plebeians in the Senate and with the consuls.(6-5) Eventually the tribunes were given the ability to elect a lawmaking body called the Counsel of Plebs that could make laws for Plebeians but not
