What is slavery and Indentured Servitude? Indentured servitude was a system where young people got into the New World by working for a manager for how many ever years the owners wanted. It was used a lot in the 18th century in the British colonies in North America. They signed an indentured agreement which meant that he was using money from his owner for food, water, and shelter. Then they would repay them by doing labor for a set period of time. Indentured servants that were good at doing labor were only indentured for about four to five years.
