The distinction between shared knowledge and personal knowledge invites us to meditate about what “we know” and what “I know”. If we look at shared knowledge it drives towards the discussion of what is known by a social group, a religious group or more generally a group of people. Personal knowledge is a more narrowed down discussion since it refers to the knowledge of a single person specifically and is mostly gained through personal experience. Throughout this essay I’m going to be using the areas of knowledge, Human science and Ethics, to discuss the way that shared knowledge can help shape our personal knowledge. First to begin, we need to know what Human science and Ethics are. Ethics is deciding what is morally right or wrong. Human science is the scientific study of the human race. With this in mind, we move to our knowledge question; to what extend does shared knowledge shape personal knowledge? For instance a religious group, how does a religion come to be? A religion group is composed of people who believe in the same things for example if we take Islam as our religious group, all Muslims believe in one almighty God and they believe that they must pray to God 3 times a day. This has now become something that is shared amongst all the Muslims, it’s a knowledge contained by all of the people. This is basically the same for all religions, all of the people who are part of a specific religious group come to believe in the same things; therefore their knowledge is common across that group and can be referred to as shared
