How Can I Tell The Difference Between A Sore Pimple And A Cold Sore On My Lip?

How weird is this, it happened a few days ago to me, except my mum always gets them. I got some zoviracs or you can use any other cold sore ointment/cream. I still dont know if you had a pimple or a cold sore . I do know now is that cold sore cream basically got rid of all of my pimples on my face though. Once the thing on my lip went I used it
