Both Nature and Nurture affect our lives greatly. Nature involves genetics, personalities, and its effect on an individual's development. Nurture on the other hand, focuses on the environmental side of influence. Nurture describes how one's individual development is greatly changed by the surrounding environment. Both nature and nurture play a role on the development of an individual. Experience and its influence on brain development represent the importance of nurture. However, the inheritance of genes, and its variations provide a clear example of nature's effect on an individual. Plato and Aristotle developed these ideals. Groups of genes influence traits such as intelligences, happiness, and aggressiveness. When inheritance occurs, an individual will receive a certain genome that represents their genetic variation. This represents human being’s genetic predisposition and how part of human being’s behavior is present before environmental influences. My family has a gene that causes emotional swings. This gene also contributes to being bipolar. My brother and my mother are more affected by this gene than that of my other siblings. However, the gene in our family only has a minor effect on us. Therefore, this gene plays a role on how my family as a whole, but also me as an individual behave. This gene can also be enhanced by the environment. Events that cause aggression can contribute to being more angry creating a bipolar effect on an individual. This explains one of many relations between nature and nurture. It is apparent that an individual's behavior is affected by both the influences of nature and nurture. Both nature and nurture influence how an individual behaves. Although some parts of nature or nurture may occur at different times, it does not eliminate others from happening. Instead of presumptions that nature and nurture worked against each other, these ideals work together to form an individual's personality and behavior.
