It was for these reasons that the Jay Treaty was signed between Britain and American. Jays treaty was also known as the Treaty of Amity, Commerce, and Navigation between His Britannic Majesty and The United States of America. This treaty which was signed in 1794 resolved these issues and began the process to secure peaceful relations and commerce. The Treaty had allowed America to achieve the goals that it had set to accomplish. The British occupied forts were relinquished allowing for insured security from the British. Compensation was to be paid to America for the damaged and confiscated Colonial ships during the Revolutionary war. Finally it was agreed that Native Americans would be allowed passage and re-passage between America and the then British territories of Canada in the search for employment or trade. This was the amongst the first time that America as an independent nation had to establish National policies to insure security and secure a good relationship with Britain for the future. America found itself head on against the spread of Communism. America perceived Communism as not only a threat to the American people but a threat to the American ideology of religious freedom, free speech and free press. The beginning strategy to stop the spread of communism was to gain the favor of recovering nations that suffered heavy loses during WWII. Two prominent plans were formulated as a result the Marshall Plan and the Eisenhower Doctrine. The Marshall Plan which was officially referred to as the European Recovery Program. The plan was set up for the United States to give 13 billion dollars to European countries to aid them in recovery and rebuilding their infrastructure that had suffered as a result of WWII. President Eisenhower put a name and a voice behind the combativeness towards communism. The Eisenhower Doctrine was a speech given during his presidency which held the message that middle eastern countries could seek out economic assistance or military aid from the United States if it was being threatened by an armed aggression from another state.
