Allometric growth is characteristic of mammals. It has shown the relationship between growth and development. Human body is grown and developed in different parts of the body with their own different rates. Besides, the growth and development of human body is resulting in the change of the size and shape of the organism. Human brain, thymus (lymphoid tissue), reproductive system, and absolute growth curve of the whole body are the main things to be focused on allometric growth of human (Refer to Figure 1, Appendix 1). From the stage of newborn until 5 years old, brain will grow and develop with its highest rate and at the age of 2 years old will reach about 80% of the adult size. 250,000 neurons will be added every minute during the brain …show more content…
Puberty from biological perspective is the process of physical changes that occurs when there are extra hormones produced in the body. Puberty for male usually happens between the ages of 10 and 16 years. In the early stages of puberty, the male will start with the enlargement of testicles that producing a hormone that called testosterone. Testosterone is an important male hormone that transforms boy’s body into a man’s body (Anawalt & Matsumoto, 2014). According to Steidle (2015), testosterone is responsible for ‘the development of male sexual characteristic’ include his body shape, deep voice even body odor. Next, the male genital organ or called as penis grows bigger and the public hair starts to grow up at the base of the penis. After one year of public hair growth, male hormones begin for ejaculation stage. Ejaculation is about the sexual arousal that occurs during an orgasm or lead to erection to the penis. However, erection can be happened anytime without any stimulation on it. Along with that, the male starts to realize that his public hair become coarser, curlier, and darker. The hair will also start to grow under his arms and in the beard area. At last but not least, his shoulders broaden, gain more weight and tighten the muscle. It describes and more focuses on the absolute growth curve of the human’s body which also known as “maturation” of human. Maturation is the highest stage of human body development and represent the fastest and most effective timing of the body parts (Barabas, n.d.). The growth rate are now increased in a slower rate compare to previous stages written which is consider stable and reach the eventual cessation of growth after adolescence (Barabas, n.d.). It emphasized more on the estimation of the average size at the morphometric maturity in humans. All the structure and characteristics of body parts are developed completely such as the muscle, height, size and others. It is difficult to accommodate any big changes in the body development under this stage. The graph shown has stated that at infant phase (0-5 years old), there is a significant increase, approximately 42% for the overall growth development. Next at childhood phase (5-10 years old), the growth rate remains fairly constant, which only increase 8% to reach 50% for the overall growth development (). Followed by adolescence phase (10-16 years old), the growth rate increase again, approximately 29% to reach 70% for the overall growth development.
