Physical discipline, also known as corporal punishment, is the punishment where any physical force is castoff and its purpose is to cause pain to the child in order to teach them a lesson. It goes without saying that physical violence does not teach anything to any child. According to a research conducted by UNICEF on child abuse: 4 out of 5 children are exposed to some degree of physical abuse in their homes. Unruly children usually need more attention and more effort to bring up since they are difficult to bring up. Corporal punishment, compared to other types of discipline, works best with children in that manner since they have a different mindset than other children. It teaches the child a lesson faster than any other form of discipline because it is causes pain and creates fear towards doing something wrong again. Corporal punishment could possibly be beneficial for the child’s future in a sense that he was disciplined as a child and the child later then grows up becoming independent and self-disciplined. Disadvantages include the following: it is a hesitant form of penalizing children in broad, effects the child’s IQ, obstructs children’s creativity, creates anti-social comportment, and nurtures violence at a young age. Not every child responds to corporal punishment the same, therefore there are countless children in which corporal punishment does not help them in any way, shape or form. Thus it is considered a hesitant form of penalizing children since not every child responds the same to it. Corporal punishment limits the child’s thinking capabilities, lowers their IQ, and obstructs their creativity. Children do not learn the essentials to communication since their parents never used words, in result the child will usually result to physical violence and anger.
