Dick and Jane have helped many to learn to read since their stories were first published in 1930. Read with Dick and Jane: Go, Go, Go consists of three short stories each approximately two to three pages long. The Dick and Jane books utilize detailed colored illustrations to enhance meaning in the text. Using simplistic language, to provide the opportunity for beginning readers to read the books, these stories require illustrations to complete the story. The white characters Dick, Jane, Sally, Tim, their parents, dog Spot, and cat Puff, live in a small town. The parents appear to have some wealth as the toys owned by the family, including roller skates, riding toys, red wagon. They also own simpler toys, including wooden pull toys and a teddy bear. The characters interact among themselves playing outside, walking to town and building a boat with dad.

The black and white illustrations are simple. In this story, the text drives most of the story telling. Ed, an elephant, lives at the zoo in a cage. Two men, visiting the zoo, bring nuts for Ed and choose to place one in the mud outside of the cage and another on top of one of a metal posts outside of Ed’s reach. He attempted to stand on his hind legs to reach the nut. He determined that he could blow water on it with his trunk and bring the nut to the ground. The men returned to give Ed the bag of nuts. Ed was thrilled with the bag and having the nut and fell asleep. In this story, the men have the most power. Ed was stuck in a cage and he is dependent on them for most everything. He was able to achieve some power by removing the nut from the top post, but the humans began and ended the story with all of the
