Quote:
“The wind blew up and down, and into small mounds of snow. Her half-grown daughters scrambled about trying to catch them, while their mother moaned and hold the underside of her stomach. The rose-petal scrambled got a lot of attention, but the pregnant lady’s moans did not”(5)

The lady is giving birth to her child outside the hospital. The extensive imagery of this scene gives it so much color and detail, which is what caught my attention. The way it was described made me picture the scene in my head. The lady could not give birth to her child inside the hospital because she was black. That lady was Ruth and she was giving birth to Milkman. It is a pretty scene with the rose petals but it seeing a lady give birth was probably

The detailed description of Pilate’s house make it seem very interesting and beautiful. The way it was described make it sound like a dream and nothing like reality.

Question:
Since Pilate was Milkman’s son, why didn't Milkman ever seen Pilate in his life until he was 12 years old? Milkman’s dad, Macon, didn't really have a good or close relationship with his sister so he didn't communicate with Pilate nor he allowed Milkman to communicate with her as much.
Answer to the prompt: Pilate’s house and Dead Family’s are completely opposite of each other. In Pilate’s house there is so much peace and joy within the family. There is no tension within the members and all I observed in my household was happy times and joyful moments. Dead’s family on the other hand, has great tension between them. I didn't witness any family bonding and the strong love within the family that Pilate’s house had. Macon and Ruth didn't have a good relationship therefore they could create any happiness in the

You aren't a serious person, Milkman...Serious is just another word for miserable”(104)

This quote is from when Guitar is telling Milkman Alabama is not a good place to live. He uses effective diction in order to appeal to pathos, and Milkman’s emotions. He doesn't want Milkman to go, so he says that because he is “serious” enough and if he lives there he will have a hard life and he will fail. He uses strong word choice that will be effective and those that will convince Milkman to no go to Alabama.

Question:
Why would Milkman offer cash to somebody who was once his lover, instead of a nice gift? Thats really disrespectful of him in my opinion. As we proceed through the book, we learn about characteristics of Milkman. One thing that I realized throughout the story, was Milkman in general used girls and women as toys. After he got what from Hagar he broke her heart in the worst way possible. That’s just one of his qualities as a man.

Answer to the prompt: By starting the sentence with “And” Morrison had done something to make the sentence more notable and she did it rhetorically. She wanted to capture readers attention and separate the father from the rest of the family by putting him in her own

It gives the reader a clue that Faith was named to represent the faith of Young Goodman Brown; such as the faith in this own life or the faith in god. For example when it states “Come, Goodman Brown, cried his fellow-traveler; this is a dull pace for the beginning of the journey. Take my staff, if you are soon weary” and “We are but a little way in the forest yet.”…

The latest part of the reading has gone by really slow as the past 5 chapters only seem to be in to two different settings during a single night. It seems like Holden is recollecting way more than a real human being would be able to recollect. He is telling us every single possible detail about where he is and what he is experiencing. I have also found it hard to connect to this portion of the book as he his dunk for a good bit of it. The part I was able to connect with the book is Phoebe as she acts similar to my younger brother.…

He immediately returns home to reveal the news to his father, Macon Dead II, and his aunt, Pilate. Only after discovering his heritage is Milkman able to believe in the concept of human flight, allowing him to final achieve acceptance by his community. Despite his efforts, it is only when Milkman begins to believe in the reality of human flight and returns home that he is no longer isolated. However, for Milkman to achieve flight, he must give up “the shit that weighs [him] down” and surrender all of his male vanities (Morrison 179). In addition, it is also crucial for Milkman to atone for his abandonment of Hagar and his family, escape from his father’s authority, and embrace Pilate, who is most likely the one “applauding and watching” in Milkman’s dreams of flight (Morrison 302).…

“When the little boy discovered, at four, the same thing Mr. Smith had learned earlier-that only birds and airplanes could fly-he lost all interest in himself” (9). In this example, Milkman is feeling a similar imprisonment as Smith and Solomon, feeling trapped within his community and family. This leads Milkman on a mission in life to take flight and escape the reality that he has been forced into. After Milkman has grown up a little, he and his friend Guitar come across a peacock one day and “Milkman felt again his unrestrained joy at anything that could fly” (178). In fact, Milkman actually longs to be like the peacock, so Guitar tells him “Wanna fly, you got to give up the shit that weighs you down”, and Milkman does just that (179).…

Scarlet Letter Journal Analysis Journal #2: In the novel The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the scarlet letter negatively affects Hester because it excludes her from society, labels her as the embodiment of sin in the town, and grants her a lot of disrespect among the people. Hester lived in a cottage that was far away from the whole town and completely surrounded by woods, which already made her feel separate from the community. Not only that, but every time she went to the busy Boston area, her contact with society made her feel “banished, and as much alone as if she inhabited another sphere” (Hawthorne 78). Hester is obviously suffering from isolation already, due to her sin and the scarlet letter setting her apart from everyone…

“It would be nice if she could let this genius know about this one little flaw in this perfect plan for taking care of women in their old age” (Esquivel 11) This quote is an example of how traditions do not always benefit the majority. Traditions can bring the family together, and create a sense of communion with the family. Each tradition has a role within the family, whether to create a sense of togetherness, or if to imprison the other family members. These traditions play a vital role in the novel, and change throughout the growth and decrease of the family.…

In the painting I see a African women with dark skin kneeling down on both knees holding her baby in her left arm with one hand behind head and the other on the buttocks. She is kneeling on a round grey mat while the baby is sucking on her nipple. She is also starring in her baby’s eyes with somewhat of a grin on her face. Both her and her baby are butt naked in this painting.…
