Descriptive Essay: The Halls Of Cherokee Elementary School

The halls of Cherokee Elementary School are very vivid in my memory even in my teen years. The last time I had even seen the school, much less walk in it, was about three or four years ago. Even the rooms in the school are glued to my brain, which leads me to conclude that small things that do not seem that important or please you can please you later. The parking lot was cracked and worn with age, and the half-torn down playground was right next to it, staring down the entrance to the school. Walking to the entrance doors, you see the trailers used as classrooms because at one point, the school was littered with kids from the whole county, but Youngs Grove Elementary sucked up all the kids like vacuums. When, you enter the double doors, you see the kindergarten and first grade hall. It is littered with painting on the walls of fireplaces, posters of coins and simple addition problems, and fake clocks. Each class also scattered with the same things, except for the obvious addition of toys and other objects that any child would be interested in. The main center of the school is past this hall, where Landon and I checked dad in for school everyday. …show more content…
The hall is noisy. I see the library down the hall and decide to go to it to try to get some peace and quiet. The library is filled with waves of books, dictionaries, and magazines that kids can read if they have any spare time during the day, plus the addition of computers that kids can do research on. After the library, there is the entrance to the fourth and fifth grade hall, where dad used to teach 5th grade history and science to kids until he moved to Jacksonville to teach 5th grade math. It is a former science room, and has two doors: one that opens to the outside faculty parking lot, and another is the main entrance that students use to enter the classroom from A Hall. This classroom is much larger than some of the other classrooms in the building, probably because it used to have science laboratory capabilities. The classroom is inviting, with a Breakfast at Tiffany’s poster and quote lining one wall, and every day, an inspirational quote that illuminates her smart board that helps inspire students before the start of class. In addition, there is a teacher’s desk at both the front and back ends of the room, and the room is built to house about 30…

I slithered through the group of people crowding the fine arts room and sat in the back corner. I prayed that I would have an extra day to go over my video, that in my opinion thoroughly sucked. The George Leland Elementary School was in an area that I thought it would be in. The building around it were run down and plain. The community was very low income and there was trash on the streets. The community did not have a lot of color and had very minimal stores. Within the city of Corpus Christi, there is evidence of economic disparity. I discovered this through my experience with the Junior Achievement (JA) program, and through data collected and observations made on my assigned school and its neighborhood, and of other JA schools in the city of Corpus Christi. All data and observations were collected to show comparisons between each JA school. The information found is valuable because it is important to know about both the physical side of a community and the economic side of a community, and how they compare to each other, as well as how they compare to other communities within a city. Junior Achievement is an organization dedicated to educating young children about branches that deal with economics,…

The classroom setting is for, four-year-old preschool aged children. The idea behind the preschool comes from Piaget’s theory that children learn by a process of adaptation, assimilation, and then accommodation. During the first step, they interpret new stimulation in ways that fit with what they already know. As the new information assimilates, the existing knowledge modifies and creates a better match. Lastly, the child’s understanding gradually changes from the interaction with the environment.…

In both classrooms, the bulletin boards had the students work displayed.…

Long, wide roads, small houses, and steel fences were my view as I walked into an unfamiliar building called Thomas Jefferson Middle School. I did not know anything about the culture or the language; a huge chill came over me, which I have never felt before. I felt goose bumps as I first walked in the building. The building was old and was not well cared for. The colors of the walls were fading and the elevators made the sound of a dying animal when it moved.…
