As the drums grow louder, a sense of patriotism is felt in the air. It’s a good day to remember those who once fought for our country; a good day for a parade. The second week of November is special for most Americans. On that day, we remember those men and women who fought for our countries freedom and liberty. Veterans Day is an official United States holiday that honors people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, also known as veterans. It is a federal holiday that is observed on November 11. It coincides with other holidays such as Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other parts of the world and also marks the anniversary of the end of World War I. The major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. The United States also originally observed Armistice Day, which has since evolved into the current Veterans Day holiday in 1954. I decided to attend this year’s Veteran’s day parade and try to gather a better understanding of how this ritual is an important part of our society today.

Our country is built on strong nationalism principles and we have strong values that shape the way we view our armed forces. There is a small part of America where they disagree with sending our soldiers overseas to their deaths. They are heavily guided by their views of what war brings about and they do not want to support sending their friends and family over to other countries where there is the potential for them to never
