Growing up in the inner city of San Diego for the early part of my childhood life was difficult. Facing the challenges of the stereotypical Latino family was a daily occurrence, such as parents not being able to support the family and also facing the fact I might never make it to college. As a Latino, you are always faced with difficult challenges such as people telling you that you will never graduate from high school, you'll join a gang or you won't obtain the same level of education that the upper class has easy access to. I had very little knowledge of the English language, and trying to keep up with the other kids was difficult. While in middle school, I realized the motivation I was waiting for to pursue my dreams would never come, I had to be my own motivation. I motivated myself to chase my dreams by taking time out of my day to attend tutoring, join AVID (Advanced Via Individual Determination), along with joining National Honors Society in order to help myself excel in school and reach my goals. I finished middle school and soon after, I had high school in my sights. When applying to high school, I had my sights set on one, high school and that was Health Sciences High. I desperately wanted to get in because I had heard they had amazing opportunities available for students like me who wanted to become doctors by giving their students the opportunity to internship at Sharp hospitals. When I first attended this high school, I was in complete shock as someone coming from a populated middle school to a relatively small school that only contains about 100 students per grade. I found this school to be very unique. It was classified as a public charter school, but the environment was
