This ad is normally referred to as “KKK vs. Afro”. The ad shows two men, one white, with a Ku Klux Klan (KKK) hat on and the other black, with an afro and a huge smile on his face. The company placed their logo in the top right corner of the ad with the words “Extremely Relaxing” underneath it. The two men are relaxing in a hot tub and depicts that even the most opposite of people can relax and enjoy their time in Luxor hot tubs. According to the Anti Defamation League, “The KKK was originally founded at the end of the Civil War and is a white supremacist group that uses violence and intimidation in order to reassert white domination in the United States. The Klan's attacks have been directed at Blacks, Jews, Catholics, immigrants and other minority groups”. There is some grass and trees, but that’s pretty much it. It is easy to see that the company was depending on the risk element to get the audience's attention. The unsettled feud between the Klu Klux Klan and the black race seems to be put into a sort of humorous light. Luxor shows that they are conscious of the continuing friction between the KKK and African Americans, yet they still choose to publish the ad to sell their hot tubs.
