My main career interest is being an owner of a small business; therefore, I interviewed Brian, the owner of Danny’s Smokehouse BBQ. Brian is one of my classmates in my Behavioral Organization class, and I learned of his ownership through class discussion. After class, I asked Brian if I could interview him, as a small business owner, for a career interview project, in which, he accepted. We met after class on March 29th in a conference room at TVCC. In the article “When Texting Is Wrong”, published in The New York Times by Randy Cohen on July 13, 2009, explains concerns about the harmfulness of texting at inappropriate times. Based on evidence in the article “At the office, managers are uncertain about texting during business meetings: many younger workers accept it; some older workers resist” (Par. 1). It demonstrates the targeted audience to be older workers and or older people who aren’t too fond of texting and feel it’s a distraction. Cohen argues that, the purpose of his article is to express the need of new manners to be explicitly introduced at home and work. Although texting is a causal thing, it can lead to interruption, harmful, and intellectual damage.…

Boundaries Boundaries or the idea of boundaries helps to distinguish between organizational systems and their environments. Boundaries-the boarders or limits of the system-help to protect or buffer the organization’s transformation process from external disruptors (Cummings, Thomas G and Worley, Christopher G, 2015). There are no boundaries in place within the organization. Usually membership and new members’ classes serve as a buffer to the outside distractions but the recent lack of new members has all but removed the boundary.…

I was referred to Nate from Becky Shand, my Strategic Customer Service instructor. Nate was one of her past students. Capital One hadn’t initially crossed my mind as a first choice for this assignment, which is why I’m glad I was able to learn more about the company.…

For assignment 5.1, I chose to interview Jake Carmany, Business Manager at Norton City Schools. I have to say that I did not realize the amount of tasks and responsibilities this role entails. Jake explained that he is responsibility for all classified staff (i.e. maintenance, custodial, aides, food service, and transportation). However, Jake relies heavily on the supervisors of each area to complete the daily tasks. He gave the analogy of the superintendent and principals; in regards to classified staff members, he (Jake) is the superintendent and the supervisors are like the building principals.…

In order to conduct a successful first family interview, it is necessary to determine the willingness of the family to receive services and engage with the workers assigned to assist them with services and family issues. It is important to reiterate to them that while the services will ultimately benefit them, it is their right (or not) to engage with the workers. This step reinforces the autonomy of the family, but the presence of workers helps to reinforce the fact that they truly do need help. The first family interview needs to take place with every family member present (Brooks & Cole, 2013). This step takes place in order to acquire the most comprehensive assessment and its dynamics as possible.…

After conducting a random research and performing a series of surveys of 4th Judicial employees and the courts in New York and Los Angeles, I found that use of a message phone line in the morning during our busiest days is in order for our jury office. This simple change would maximize utilization of our jury court staff during the busiest jury check-in process days by focusing our full attention on customers and assisting court clerks when they come to our office requesting jury panels. There are three judicial court staff members in the jury commissioner’s office.…

Texting while driving is becoming now a controversial issue. The fact that people send or read messages while they are on the road is causing accidents and problems for both, the drivers and the people around them. Despite all the laws that have been created only the minority is listening and paying attention to this. In my opinion, people need more education concerning all this. They need to realize once and for all that these recent laws are not here without a purpose.…
