Now more than ever we are seeing trying times, with the downfall of the economy, foreclosures and unemployment at their all-time highs. I have a friend of mine that works in the mortgage industry. She told me of a woman going through a divorce, just having lost her job, she said she was so sad and depressed a few months later, she than committed suicide. I hear on the news and I even have friends that their outlook on their circumstance is very traumatic and negative. The challenge with depression is to make sure relapses is not on the horizon for the individual. There are a few clinical uncertainties that should be studied and also rationalizing the need for their investigation. The research in Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy for depression (MBCTD) expresses the link between cognitive psychology and depression (Allen, Bromley, Kuyken,& Sonnenberg, 2009). The research was done over a 2-year time frame, using several different methods such as translational randomized controlled trial involving mindfulness-based cognitive therapy and supported self-monitoring. The study used prospective, multi-site, single blind, randomized controlled trials along with using a group comparison design between involving the intervention, MBCT, and a self-monitoring comparison condition (Chawla, Collins, Bowen, 2010).
