Dental Hygienist Application Essay

I became interested in becoming a dental hygienist from a very young age. In the last year, I had applied to the dental hygiene program at UMB to dream my career. Finally, my dream began to come true, and I actually advanced to the interview process at UMB. However, my dream was stopped at the interview step. I got discouraged myself, but I thought differently and started to think what self-development and improvement are needed for my career. During the interview, all the candidates have a lot of passion and ambition to study for the dental hygiene program at UMB. Having an experience as a dental assistant results good outcomes such as learning how to be socialized with co-workers and patients, learning the dental terminologies, and having a good knowledge and a skill as a dental assistant. In order to be a dental hygienist, I realized that good relationship and communication between a patient and me are very important. It is important to treat a patient’s teeth well, but I could see that some patients were satisfied with a good humanity and behavior from the doctor and the staff at the dental office. So, I always tried to express my kindness and get close to a patient like a friend. As a result, the patients showed satisfaction with my humanity, and I could earn the praise from the doctors and the staffs. Another good improvement was a learning the dental terminologies. Actually, I just knew all the terminologies from the school. I had recognized the terminologies with the dental instrument until I started to work at the dental office. Expectably, I learned fast and put a theory in practice by recognizing the dental terminologies with the dental instruments and actually using those instruments for patients.
