There is a myth that states gum will stay in the human stomach for 7 years after being swallowed. However, studies have shown that this is in fact incorrect. Gum is very digestible and isn’t hard to break apart in the stomach unless consumed in very large quantities due to its sticky texture. In many incidents, swallowed gum passes through the digestive system as well as any other food. When somebody swallows gum the material is first taken down the esophagus (the first mushed food is called bolus in the digestive system) where mechanical breakdown occurs in the mouth.…

Bacteria can cause dental implants to fail and can result in inflammation of tissues. Some studies show that bacteria can affect stable and unstable dental implants. In this paper, I will be discussing how bacteria can cause dental implants to fail as well as how bacteria does not affect stable dental implants in the oral cavity. Years ago, archaeologists discovered ancient mummies with metal bands wrapped around their teeth, indicating primal dentistry. This finding was reinforced when yet another researcher found a number of teeth with a gold wire inside of a Roman tomb in Egypt. Years ago, traditional ‘metal’ braces were wrapped entirely around each tooth with bands and wires made of precious metals, such as gold, platinum, and silver. Pierre Fauchard, a French dentist, created the first modern braces in 1728 out of a horseshoe shaped piecite of precious metal and silk threads or waxed linen to hold it in place. Todays braces are much advanced and different.…

As part of this class the instructor had create a variety of interactive assignments where students get to experience what it feels when having a real patient in front of them. Such was the clinic observation activity where we, the lower clinic class, had the opportunity to observe how students of a higher class were handling a full clinic section with the help of their high qualified instructors. One of the expectations I had for this activity was that I would be able to see the process of care in action, since the clinician brings the patient to the operatory…
