It is impossible for one to do anything privately with the telescreens in every room. The loss of privacy is clearly seen when Winston is participating in the mandatory morning stretches. “ ‘6079 Smith W! Yes, you! Bend lower, please! You can do better than that. You’re not trying. Lower, please! That’s better, comrade.’” (Owell 39). This quote shows how at any moment during daily life, an inner Party member or the Thought Police could be watching a person's every move. The constant surveillance of citizens is so threatening because any actions or thoughts against the government can result in vaporization. Having advertisements constantly thrown towards citizens telling them to buy these products, as well as making them the only available necessities, makes it impossible to not purchase them. Having no other available products to buy, citizens must use the little money they have to buy Victory brand items. When a person in Oceania buys items from this lousy brand, it automatically has them supporting the Party with more money. Moreover, the Party creates a new language, called Newspeak, which essentially simplifies english by eliminating all negative words. If a citizen of Oceania cannot say ‘bad’ or anything negative, there is no way to contradict the Party, or have any conflicting thoughts. The limitations Newspeak creates is further shown in the quote, “ ‘Don’t you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it.’” (55). The Party’s
