We all have gone through it at some stage in our lifetime. We might have done it, without knowing it or knowing. We also consider it as illegal or bad, though the world is polluted by it. It takes place everywhere and all the time. We face it because of different features that we possess compared to another group of people. We are the originator of it. Everyone has a label because of it. This phenomenon is called discrimination, meaning the practice of unfairly treating a person or group of people differently from other people or groups of people. In the old days, the meaning of the word was to separate or just perceiving the difference between things. After the American civil war, the word “discrimination” has come into existence in American English. The term was used to refer the prejudicial treatment of someone based only on his or her race. Today, the term has even evolved more and we can find discrimination based on numbers of things. In America, black people still face discrimination, Statistics show that, 66% Americans feel that there is still a fair amount of discrimination, and African Americans (69%) are discriminated highest among any other …show more content…
After completion of my high school in India, I was willing to complete my college at IIT (Indian Institute of Technology). My score in the JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) was good enough to get admission in the IIT. However, I did not get admission because I was from the general category. At the same time, a student who is from OBC (Other Backward Classes) with very lower grades has a reservation to get admission to the same college without any efforts.
