Definition Essay: How Would You Describe Me?

Improved Essays
Everyone has asked this question at some point in their life, “How would you describe me?” Some answers could include brilliant, radiant, outgoing, and complex. However, the most frequent adjective I would receive to this question is probably the most simplistic. They would say I am kind. Some people might find this most basic term somewhat insulting. This is not because being called kind is so repulsive, but because they don’t understand how someone couldn’t say anything more about them. I on the other hand, couldn’t be more proud to be called this “elementary” word, because it best shows all that I have accomplished. As babies, we are all born with the capability of being kind, but for some people this ability is completely wiped away.

Chapter One: “... but people aren't meant to be overly bright in everything.” (15) I selected this quote because it states something I need to keep in mind sometimes. I get extremely frustrated if I do not pick up on something right away or not at all; like origami or some math concepts. At the end of the day, it does not matter if someone excels at everything they do; what matters is that someone tried their best at everything they did. Chapter Two: “There’s nothing like a song about lost love to remind you how everything precious can slip from the hinges where you've hung it so careful.”…

Chapter three of “Being Peace” relates to chapter seven of “Search Inside Yourself” in that both discussed our happiness and how it affect others, the different perceptions we have, and the empathy we have for one another. Our brains are designed with people in mind, so feeling the emotions of another person is how we are one with ourselves and how we connect with others. In chapter seven of “Search Inside Yourself”, kindness is described as a sustainable source of happiness per the practice conducted on Just Like Me/Loving Kindness. Those who perceive themselves to be kind, are often calmer and happier towards other people, which makes the person on the other end happy as well. In comparison, in chapter three of “Being Peace”, your concern…

Critical thinker, problem solver, well mannered, mature, caring, respectful, patient, and disciplined are all words I would use to describe myself, Matthew Jacob Taylor. I was not always like that I’ve had many experiences and help from amazing parents over the years to change my personality, world views, and emotions to what they are today. I’ve always felt older than the other students in my grade even thought I was one of the youngest in my class. What made me that way was working with my self-employed successful dad. He would take me to his work starting at age 4 telling me if I work hard and make the right choices the family business can be mine.…

In this paper, I will discuss whether human nature is good or bad by analyzing a debate between Xunzi and Mengzi. I argue that Xunzi’s argument fails to undermine Mengzi’s claim for the goodness of human nature, and the two seemingly disparate perspectives can be reconciled. I will demonstrate a more challenging argument against Mengzi’s theory by reformulating Xunzi’s claim with a Humean ethical perspective on human nature. Xunzi defines human nature as what is inherent; that is, the traits that cannot be deliberately obtained through practice substantially constitute our nature. With this innate theory of human nature, Xunzi argues that mankind is born bad, because we have intrinsic dispositions to benefits and pleasure.…

Many words can describe the type of person I am, strong, intelligent, brave but I wouldn't choose any of these as my favorite. If I had to pick one word to define me it would be “trying” because it shows the good in the time you have given it, shows your patience for what there is to come, and engages your spirit to show how far you will go to build onto it. Trying brings good in the amount you've given it. You cannot run out unless you've given up and rewards you for everyday that you had held on to. Rewards can be shown in many ways and are given when you have achieved something you wanted to improve or went above and beyond the expectation.…
