One of the biggest things in pop culture right now is heroes, but what exactly defines a hero? A hero is courageous, strong, and stands up for what they believe in. There are many things a hero is, and many things it is not. A hero is brave, kind, and helpful, and does good things, sometimes even just the little things, to make the world a better place.
A hero could be anybody. Parents are heroes, for putting their child’s needs before theirs. Police are heroes, for upholding the law and keeping their cities and towns safe. Veterans are heroes for fighting for their country. All of these people are selfless, brave, and they all make the world a better place, just by being there for other people. A hero is not selfish, or cowardly, and does not need to have fame or fortune for what they do. They don’t prefer a fight, but instead a peaceful resolution, but they are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in. Well, a hero is kind, selfless, brave, and helpful. They are not only willing to help, but want to. They are both people who have a great effect on the world and want to use it to help, and the people who have a limited effect and want to do all they can anyways to make their community a better place. In a few words, heroism can be explained simply like this:“Most of what they do goes unheralded, unappreciated. And that, ironically, is heroism: to not be recognised.” (Stone)
Summing up, heroism is very complex, but three of the core things that define a hero are kindness, bravery, and selflessness. No matter who you are, you can be a hero, simply by holding the door for someone else or helping someone on crutches carry their bags, because heroism is not always huge.
