Definition Essay Friendship

My personal definition of a friend is a person that you know and have some type of bond with. I also believe that there are different types of friendships an individual can have and they can usually be divided up into the following three categories childhood friends, adult friends, and friendly acquaintances. The first group of friends is the friends you will develop during your childhood. This group will usually consist of individuals that will help formulate your thought process of what a real friend is and is not. These are the individuals that will usually be very direct in their communication with you and usually really like the person that you are or they are not going to be around you long. I have been very fortunate to develop long lasting childhood friendships that are still very strong today. There is a group of about 10 of us that went from being friends in the kindergarten all the way to the twelfth grade. Although we all went our separate ways after high school, occasionally, we will catch up with one another via a quick telephone call or catch up at our next class reunion. I’ve have heard it’s not common for this type of friendship to last long as many individuals will grow apart over time. I have been able to cultivate many types of friendships as an adult. My husband was in the military and we traveled in the US and outside of the US a great deal with his job. Because of the nature of my husband’s job, I was able to become friends with some individuals that if I had not been placed in a particular environment, I may not have been friends with them at all. These are the most precious friendships to me because those friendships were forged because of a common thread. These friendships have become very precious to me and I am still in contact with most of these friends on a frequent
