Phase 4 – The contact phase (critical phase) (Figure 1d) is when the subject is making contact with the ball and accelerating the kicking leg into contact and into the follow through while maintaining balance on the opposite foot as without this the contact actions will change. Making contact under the ball to create height on the ball as well as power is also very important part of the defensive clearance movement. At this stage of the contact phase the standing leg will be secured in the ground maintain stabilization, while the contact foot will be at planter flexion at impact moving forwards and upwards across the midline. The standing leg depending on the subject performing this might rise off the ground 1-2 inches and the kicking leg extending straight out forwards and upwards across the body. The more one follows through with the action the further the ball will travel and higher it will rise creating a perfect defensive clearance movement. One has to have flexibility and mobility in the hips to able to follow through until ones leg has reached full extension. Description of Motion
Motion is the act or process of changing place or position with respect to some reference point (Tripps, 2003 Winter). The subject performing this skill will go from a pre phase (figure 1 a), which is standing still horizontally to four other different positions shown in (figures 1 b-1 e). By moving through these four phases (figure 1b – 1e) the subject will produce force to apply to the object that will send the object in motion in reference i. e. fans, stadium.
